The Short Answer

Amazon UK already sells plug-in solar panels. Unlike Lidl, Iceland, and Aldi (which are still months from launch), Amazon has been stocking EcoFlow, Anker, Zendure, and Hoymiles-based plug-in solar kits since 2024. You can buy one today with Prime delivery.

Amazon was named in the UK government’s 24 March 2026 plug-in solar announcement as the official online retail partner alongside EcoFlow. Amazon is the practical buying channel right now — if you want plug-in solar this month, this is how.

Anker SOLIX Solarbank with battery£800-£1,200

Why Amazon Already Sells What Supermarkets Don’t

Amazon operates under a different regulatory interpretation than UK supermarkets. Individual components (panels, micro-inverters) have always been legal to sell in the UK; the grey area was whether a complete “plug-and-play” kit bundled with a 13A plug could be marketed for mains connection.

Amazon works around this by:

  1. Selling components and kits that have valid G98 type approval (the inverters are on the ENA Type Test Register)
  2. Recommending in product listings that installation be done by a “qualified electrician” or via a fused spur, covering the regulatory edge
  3. Listing products as “solar panel systems” rather than “plug and play mains kits”

This let Amazon and EcoFlow run a commercial market for 18+ months before BS 7671 Amendment 4 clarified the position in April 2026. The supermarket rollout is the mass-market phase; Amazon has been serving the early adopter segment since 2024.

What’s Actually Available on Amazon UK Right Now

The newer, simpler model. Designed for the UK market. A single kit with panels, micro-inverter, and cables.

  • Price: ~£478 for 800W kit (2 x 400W panels + STREAM micro-inverter)
  • Or: STREAM micro-inverter alone ~£129
  • Warranty: 5 years
  • Grid approval: G98 / ENA Type Test Register approved
  • Best for: First-time buyers who want a simple, UK-optimised system

See our EcoFlow review for the detailed spec breakdown.

EcoFlow PowerStream (best for EV / battery users)

The established model. More features, higher price, better for integrating with other EcoFlow gear.

  • Micro-inverter alone: £209
  • Full 800W kit with smart meter clamp: £699-£899
  • App: EcoFlow app with real-time generation, consumption, and battery monitoring
  • Battery compatibility: Delta 2 (£508), River 2 (£249), Delta Pro (£1,299+)
  • Warranty: 5 years
  • Best for: Households with an EV, heat pump, or existing EcoFlow batteries

Anker SOLIX Solarbank

Anker’s self-contained plug-in solar with integrated battery. Different philosophy: all-in-one rather than modular.

  • Price: £800-£1,200 depending on battery size
  • Panel compatibility: Works with most 400W panels
  • Battery: Built-in 1.6 kWh (upgradeable to 3.2 kWh or 4.8 kWh)
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • Best for: Buyers who want a single-box solution with battery storage

See our Anker SOLIX review.

Zendure SolarFlow

Zendure’s clever angle: the inverter can time-shift generation to match Agile Octopus or Power NI time-of-use tariffs.

  • Price: £500-£700 for 800W
  • Tariff integration: Smart tariff optimisation
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • Best for: Households on dynamic tariffs (Agile Octopus, Click PowerShift)

See our Zendure review.

Hoymiles-based DIY kits

The lowest-cost route. Buy a Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T micro-inverter (£129-£160) plus two 400W panels (£150 each) and wire them yourself.

  • Total cost: £270-£450
  • Warranty: 12 years on the micro-inverter
  • Grid approval: G98 / ENA Type Test Register approved
  • Best for: Confident DIYers who want the absolute cheapest compliant system

What to Watch Out For on Amazon

  1. Non-approved third-party inverters. Some cheap Amazon listings ship with Chinese micro-inverters that aren’t on the ENA Type Test Register. These cannot be legally connected to the UK grid. If NIE Networks reject the G98/NI notification, the system is effectively useless. Only buy inverters from EcoFlow, Anker, Zendure, or Hoymiles unless you’ve verified the specific model is listed on the register.

  2. Fake “UK approved” claims. Some listings claim UK compliance without specifying G98 Type Test approval. Always cross-check the exact model number against ena-eng.org before buying.

  3. Bundles with incompatible panels. A few listings pair a genuine EcoFlow micro-inverter with generic panels that have the wrong MC4 connectors or voltage range. Stick to EcoFlow-branded or clearly EcoFlow-compatible panel listings.

  4. “Fake” Amazon sellers. Check the seller name. EcoFlow UK Official Store, Anker Direct, and Zendure are the authentic sellers. Suspicious variations of these names (extra letters, odd punctuation) are counterfeits.

  5. Missing smart meter clamps. The PowerStream headline kit is £699-£899 including a smart meter clamp. Some third-party listings sell the PowerStream at £499 without the clamp, which halves the self-consumption efficiency.

Amazon vs Buying Direct from EcoFlow

PowerStream micro-inverter£209£209

Accessories (clamps, cables)BroadEcoFlow-only

Practical verdict: for the STREAM kit, Amazon is often the only UK source right now. For PowerStream and accessories, prices are similar and it’s largely a question of which delivery window and returns policy you prefer. Our affiliate links go direct to EcoFlow’s UK store because the after-sales support is better, but Amazon Prime delivery is a real advantage for installers who want the kit quickly.

Amazon vs Lidl, Iceland, Aldi

The four retailers named in the government’s plug-in solar announcement have very different positions:

RetailerStatusTypical priceAvailable?
AmazonStocking since 2024£270-£899Right now
LidlExploring, no firm launch~£400 expectedSummer/autumn 2026
IcelandNamed partner, no statement~£400 expectedLate 2026
Aldi UKNo commitmentUnknown2027+

If your priority is the absolute cheapest price, waiting for Lidl or Iceland in late 2026 might save £50-£80. If your priority is owning the system now, generating electricity, and benefiting from months of summer output, Amazon is the only route.

See our individual guides on Lidl plug-in solar, Iceland plug-in solar, and Aldi plug-in solar for the detail on each.

Northern Ireland Delivery and Setup

  • Delivery: Amazon Prime covers all Northern Ireland postcodes (BT) without surcharges. Next-day delivery is available in most urban areas.
  • VAT: Domestic solar kits in NI are zero-rated for VAT until at least 2027, which applies to professionally installed systems. It’s not confirmed whether off-the-shelf Amazon plug-in kits are treated the same way. Keep your invoice.
  • NIE Networks notification: You must notify NIE Networks under G98/NI within 30 days of commissioning. The process is free and takes about ten minutes. See our G98 plug-in solar notification guide for the step-by-step.
  • Electricity prices: NI rates range from 24p to 39p per kWh. At the higher end, a £478 EcoFlow STREAM kit pays back in under three years.
  • Weather: An 800W kit generates 600-800 kWh per year in NI, worth £144 to £312 at current tariffs.

Our Recommendation

If you’re buying plug-in solar in Northern Ireland today, the EcoFlow STREAM 800W kit on Amazon (or direct from EcoFlow) at around £478 is the right choice for most households. It’s the simplest UK-compliant system, has G98 type approval, comes with a 5-year warranty, and starts saving you money on day one.

Upgrade to the PowerStream kit (£699-£899) if:

  • You have an EV or heat pump (higher self-consumption potential)
  • You already own EcoFlow batteries (seamless integration)
  • You want the smart meter clamp for max self-consumption matching

Go DIY Hoymiles (£270-£450) if:

  • You’re comfortable with basic electrical work
  • Absolute lowest cost is the priority
  • You already have panels (or want to pair with second-hand panels)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy plug-in solar panels on Amazon UK?

Yes. Unlike Lidl and Iceland, which haven't launched yet, Amazon UK has been selling plug-in solar kits since 2024. You can buy EcoFlow PowerStream, EcoFlow STREAM, Anker SOLIX Solarbank, Zendure SolarFlow, and Hoymiles-based DIY kits right now with Prime next-day delivery. Prices range from around £270 for a basic DIY kit to £899 for a premium PowerStream bundle.

What is the cheapest plug-in solar panel on Amazon UK?

The cheapest complete plug-in solar kit on Amazon UK starts at around £270 for a Hoymiles micro-inverter (HMS-800W-2T) paired with two 400W panels. Branded kits start at £478 (EcoFlow STREAM 800W). Individual components like a single 400W panel can be bought for £150-£200.

Is Amazon a good place to buy plug-in solar panels?

Yes, with caveats. Amazon's advantages are price, stock, next-day delivery, and a generous returns policy. The disadvantages are third-party sellers offering non-approved inverters (which fail G98 notification in NI), and a smaller selection of accessories like smart meter clamps and mounting brackets than specialist retailers. Stick to reputable brands (EcoFlow, Anker, Zendure, Hoymiles) sold by Amazon or the brand directly, not unknown re-sellers.

What's the difference between the EcoFlow STREAM and PowerStream on Amazon?

The STREAM is the newer, simpler model designed specifically for the UK plug-in market: panels + micro-inverter + plug. Full kit is around £478. The PowerStream is the established model with more features: app control, smart meter integration, and battery-pairing with EcoFlow's Delta 2 / River 2. PowerStream micro-inverter alone is £209; a full PowerStream kit is £699-£899. For most NI homeowners, the STREAM is better value; for EV owners or those who want battery integration, PowerStream wins.

Will Amazon sell cheaper plug-in solar kits once Lidl launches?

Probably not dramatically cheaper. Lidl's expected launch price is around £400 for a basic kit, versus the EcoFlow STREAM at £478 on Amazon today. That's an £80 gap, but Amazon's mid-2026 pricing may already drop as the BSI product standard is published and new brands enter the market. Expect Amazon to match or undercut Lidl via third-party sellers once supermarket availability confirms the category.

Can I return plug-in solar to Amazon if it doesn't work?

Yes. Amazon's standard 30-day return policy applies to plug-in solar kits, and you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if the product is faulty. Most plug-in solar brands sold on Amazon carry 5-10 year warranties (EcoFlow 5 years, Anker 10, Hoymiles 12), so post-warranty returns go through the manufacturer, not Amazon.
